White Carrara has a quiet strength to it, soft white tones, gentle grey veining, and a classic character that has inspired artisans for centuries. For this display base, I wanted to combine that timeless material with a modern construction approach that highlights both design and function.
This piece is built from two layers of Carrara marble, each 0.75 inches thick, but arranged with intention.
The top layer is cut 0.5 inches larger than the bottom layer, creating a subtle stepped profile. That small detail changes everything, adding depth, visual balance, and a sense of architectural structure. It’s a simple design choice, but it requires exact cutting, matching, and edge finishing to keep the lines clean and the proportions perfect.
Working with Carrara means understanding its natural tendencies. The stone can be soft in some areas, crisp in others. Veins move unpredictably. After more than 20 years in the stone industry, I’ve learned how to let the stone guide the process, and how to join layers so they feel like one solid, unified piece.
To complete the base, I added a brass spike, giving it a gentle lift from the surface. This isn’t just aesthetic, the spike reduces surface contact, improves vibration control, and creates a refined floating effect. The warm brass against cool white marble adds a quiet contrast that feels intentional and elegant.
The finished piece is versatile and calm. It can hold audio equipment, sculpture, or any object that deserves a strong, minimalist foundation. The stepped layers give it presence without overwhelming the space. The Carrara veining brings character without noise.
And like all DizzyStone pieces, this base is crafted from leftover stone, material that would have otherwise been discarded. Now it becomes something functional, modern, and lasting. A new chapter in its stone story.
